toda la tierra todo el aire

I

Estoy con piedras que permanecen.

Las piedras duran donde están.

Las campanillas se enroscan;

los pescaditos se mueven.

Una onda despierta el estanque.

II

Esta dicha es mi ruina, ¿Yo soy!

Un hombre rico como un gato,

Un gato en la horcadura de un árbol,

Cuando ella sacude sus cabellos.

Pienso en eso y me río.

III

Toda inocencia e ingenio, ella

Mantiene vivos mis deseos;

Cuando, flexible como una fiera,

Camina por la calle,

Comienzo a dejarme a mí mismo

IV

Verdaderamente hermosos.

Sus cuerpos no pueden mentir:

la flor pica a la abeja.

El suelo necesita del abismo,

Dicen las piedras, dicen los peces.

V

Un campo se aleja en el sueño.

¿ Dónde están los muertos? Ante mí

Fluctúa una única estrella.

Un árbol se desliza con la luna.

¡El campo es mío! ¡Es mío!

VI

Estoy al acecho en una guarida,

Todo uno con la tétrica oscuridad.

¿Qué es el infierno sino un corazón helado?

¿Pero quién, al enfrentarse con el rostro de ella,

No se regocijaría?

All the Earth, All the Air

I

I stand with standing stones.

The stones stay where they are.

The twiny winders wind;

The little fishes move.

A ripple wakes the pond.

II

This joy’s my fall. I am!–

A man as rich as a cat,

A cat in the fork of a tree,

When she shakes out her hair.

I think of that and laugh.

III

All innocence and wit,

She keeps my wishes warm;

When, easy as a beast,

She steps along the street,

I start to leave myself.

IV

The truly beautiful,

Their bodies cannot lie;

The blossom stings the bee.

The ground needs the abyss,

Say the stones, say the fish.

V

A field recedes in sleep.

Where are the dead? Before me

Floats a single star.

A tree glides with the moon.

The field is mine! Is mine!

VI

In a lurking place I lurk,

One with the sullen dark.

What’s hell but a cold heart?

But who, faced with her face,

Would not rejoice?
